As the first of September hits today, I am asking myself over and over... How is it that we are this far along in the year already??? Yes three question marks. I'd like to even add more, because I am absolutely baffled. Weren't we just walking along the beach on summer nights just the other day? Wasn't it Christmas just last week? Wasn't it yesterday when I was holding my new born babies in my arms? "Time flies"... "Life is short"... We hear it all the time. But it is so gosh. Darn. True.
September, every year, marks for our family the start of the crazy season. Not the end of Winter, not Spring, not Fathers day. Just plain and simple the crazy season which isn't over until around March the following year.
There are birthdays and school events, camps and concerts. The diary slowly fills up as talk of who can schedule what in at what time "because we don't want to leave it until Christmas". And then talk of Mr Stationery's work Christmas parties and functions. To make this year even more hectic, we have grade six graduations and "last this's" and "last that's" like Little Miss Twelve will never see some of her friends ever again. (Let's face it, it's quite likely that some of them she won't).
AND....We are on the 40th Birthday circuit too. You know, once upon a time every weekend there was a twenty-first, then it was engagements, then weddings and then first birthdays, well you get the idea.
AND.... as if personal life isn't hectic enough, on the work front, there is wedding season.
Now let's bring this back to stationery.
Most bride's-to-be stick their wedding stationery low on their list of 'to do's'. It comes well after dress, make up, venue, photographer, florist, cars and even honeymoon.
But let's face it. Your stationery and in particular, your invitation suite, is one of the most important things for your wedding. After hours and hours (and even more hours) of planning, organising, thinking you might just elope due to the stress, and then more hours, you have to actually invite people to this event. It gives the first sneak peek into the hours of planning and your day.
More often than not, I get requests for stationery at the last minute asking how quickly can it be done as we are getting married in just 6 weeks. Sometimes, it's not always possible.
Ladies, YOU GOTTA ALLOW SOME TIME. Time flies (see first paragraph of this post). Don't make the mistake of thinking "Oh but my wedding is not until next year". You will see an idea that you love, then you might change your mind, then you might change your mind again. Then you will get uninspired, and go back to your original idea. Then you might get too many ideas. And so on.
If you get your stationery custom designed...
If you are time poor, order online as most places (including this one!) have quick turn around as the designs are already done for you. Choose one from the store to make life even easier. There's a mix of modern and more traditional designs with more to come over the next week.
If, of course I don't lose track of time.
